Engineering & Fabrication
Stainless fabrication for engineering and process projects
Engineering fabrication is at the centre of what DMS does. Since 1992 we have produced stainless steel fabrications ranging from very simple box-section frameworks to complex process plant and special purpose equipment, and we specialise in the manufacture and assembly of plant, equipment and pipework.
We deliver fabrication and welding to clients in the process engineering and food industries, among others, with a service that runs from cutting and forming through to welding, inspection, assembly and testing.
See examples in our gallery or request a quotation.

One team from cutting to proof running
Engineering projects can use any combination of:
- Sheet metal work: CAD programming, laser profiling and CNC folding.
- Fabrication work: frameworks, vessels, hoppers and special purpose equipment.
- Welding: manual TIG, machine TIG and orbital welding.
- Pipework: stainless, Duplex and Super Duplex pipework welding.
- Inspection, assembly and testing: fitting, inspection and proof running before despatch.
Electrical work on assembled equipment is subcontracted to suitably qualified and approved companies.

How we approach engineering fabrication
Interpreting your requirements
Our fabricators turn customer drawings and specifications into bespoke equipment.
Laser-profiled parts
Using laser-cut components wherever possible gives excellent accuracy during manufacture.
Minimal distortion
Laser cutting, folding and progressive welding keep distortion to a minimum on complex fabrications.
Vessels and pipework
Pressure vessels, housings and pipework are fabricated alongside the equipment they serve.
In-house assembly
Skilled fitters assemble fabrication components, bespoke machines and equipment.
Proof running
Equipment is inspected, tested and proof run to your requirements before despatch.
Equipment we can fabricate
Equipment shown in our gallery and on our service pages includes:
- Fluid beds, rotary dryers and a rotary sieve
- Paddle mixers and a twin screw press
- UV chambers and an inlet device
- Process plant with screw conveyors, hoppers and pipework
If you need similar equipment, or something entirely bespoke, send a drawing or describe what it has to do. View the gallery.

Materials for process and engineering equipment
Stainless process equipment is commonly made in 300 series grades, with Duplex, Super Duplex or nickel alloys specified where corrosion or strength demands it. We hold welding procedures for these and for carbon steels, so carbon steel frames and stainless process parts can be combined where the design allows.
For food and other equipment where cleanability matters, state the grade, surface finish and any standards the equipment must meet. See our approved materials.

Design, build and test
Our team uses AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D to develop and prove complex components before they are cut, and we accept drawings in .sat, .dxf and .dwg formats. A typical project moves through:
- Design review against your drawings or requirements
- Cutting, forming and welding of components
- Assembly by our fitters, with electrical work subcontracted
- Inspection, testing and proof running before despatch

Inspection and testing
We visually inspect our own welding, using flexible borescopes for the inside of tube, and offer weld and raw material ferrite testing in-house or on site visits. All other NDT, including digital radiography, is subcontracted to an independent test laboratory.
Tell us the design code, pressure or hygiene requirements, test procedures and documentation your equipment needs, so they can be allowed for when we quote. Read about inspection, assembly and testing.
